Tetelestai

Tetelestai is a Greek word meaning “paid in full.” Perhaps someone paid for your lunch, coffee or soda. Maybe a larger bill  like a house payment or college tuition. In a spiritual sense, someone paid something of much greater value for you. “It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment” (Hebrews 9:27). How will you do? Have you ever told a lie? Stolen anything? Hated someone? Jesus calls hatred murder (Matthew 5:22)! Ever used God’s name carelessly? That is blasphemy and is a very serious offense (Exodus 20:7). Innocent or guilty? Heaven or Hell? God does not want you to go to Hell (1 Timothy 2:4, 2 Peter 3:9). He loves you so much that, two thousand years ago, God sent His only son Jesus Christ to earth. Jesus being fully God and fully man, lived a perfect life, fulfilled the Law and then willingly became the perfect sacrifice for the sin of the whole world. He died on a cross to pay for your sin (1 John 2:2). Jesus rose from the dead, defeating sin, death and the devil. In John 19:28-30, the word tetelestai is translated as “it is finished”. There is nothing left to do. “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). Repent and believe the Gospel.
